Loy Krathong Festival 2023

Loy Krathong Festival 2023 (ลอยกระทง 2566) falls on the 28 November 2023. It is the time again to thank the Thai Goddess of Water (Phra Mae Khongkha พระแม่คงคา) for the harvest and her blessings in the past year. On this full moon day in the twelfth month of the Thai lunar calendar, devotees will perform traditions such as releasing lanterns into the river and participate in a series of celebratory activities across the country.

This day also coincides with the Yi Peng festival celebrated in northern Thailand including Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lampang, Lamphun, Mae Hong Son, Nan, Phayao and Phrae provinces. Devotees release lanterns into the sky to worship and seek blessings from Lord Buddha.

Loy Krathong celebratory activities in Bangkok are usually concentrated around the Chao Phraya River, while Yi Peng festive celebrations in Chiang Mai are held at the iconic Tha Phae Gate.
