Loy Krathong Festival 2026 (ลอยกระทง 2569) will be celebrated on 24 November 2026, falling on the full moon night, the 15th day of the twelfth month in the Thai lunar calendar. This auspicious occasion is dedicated to honoring Phra Mae Khongkha พระแม่คงคา, the Thai Goddess of Water, as people express gratitude for the year’s harvest, abundance and blessings.
In accordance with long-held tradition, communities throughout Thailand will mark the festival by floating beautifully decorated krathongs on rivers, canals and lakes, alongside a wide range of cultural performances and festive activities. Celebrations will take place in many cities and provinces, including Bangkok, Ayutthaya, Korat, Lampang, Nonthaburi, Phitsanulok, Roi Et, Samut Songkhram, Sukhothai, Surat Thani and Tak.
In northern Thailand, Loy Krathong coincides with the Yi Peng Festival ยี่เป็ง, observed in Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lampang, Lamphun, Mae Hong Son, Nan, Phayao, and Phrae. During Yi Peng, thousands of lanterns are released into the night sky as offerings to Lord Buddha, symbolizing the letting go of misfortune and the seeking of blessings and good fortune.
Note: Loy Krathong is not an official public holiday in Thailand.
