Loy Krathong Festival 2025 (ลอยกระทง 2568) will be celebrated on 5 November 2025. This full moon night of the twelfth month in the Thai lunar calendar marks a time for honoring Phra Mae Khongkha (พระแม่คงคา), the Thai Goddess of Water, in gratitude for the year’s harvest and blessings.
In keeping with tradition, people across Thailand will engage in customs such as releasing lanterns into rivers and participating in a variety of festive activities in cities and provinces including Ayutthaya, Bangkok, Chon Buri, Khon Kaen, Krabi, Pattaya, Phuket, Roi Et, Samut Songkhram, Sukhothai, Suphan Buri, Surat Thani, Surin and Tak.
Loy Krathong also coincides with the Yi Peng festival (ยี่เป็ง) in northern Thailand, which is observed in Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lampang, Lamphun, Mae Hong Son, Nan, Phayao and Phrae provinces. During Yi Peng, devotees release lanterns into the sky as offerings to Lord Buddha, seeking his blessings.
