Loy Krathong Festival 2024 (ลอยกระทง 2567) will take place on 15 November 2024. This festival is a time to express gratitude to Phra Mae Khongkha พระแม่คงคา, the Thai Goddess of Water, for the year’s harvest and blessings. On this full moon day in the twelfth month of the Thai lunar calendar, participants will engage in traditions such as releasing lanterns into the river and partake in various celebratory activities throughout the country.
Additionally, Loy Krathong coincides with the Yi Peng festival (ยี่เป็ง) in northern Thailand, including Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lampang, Lamphun, Mae Hong Son, Nan, Phayao, and Phrae provinces. During Yi Peng, devotees release lanterns into the sky as an offering to Lord Buddha and to seek his blessings.
